About the artist
My name is Ashley Ogle and I am a monotype printmaker from Los Gatos, California. My father, a Bay Area sculptor and ceramics artist, David Ogle, taught me monotype printing about 10 years ago. My time with him is precious and I love spending it in the studio, learning techniques and sharing stories. To me, monotype printing has been a way to learn about myself, tell my story, and connect with my father.
My process of monotype printing is a form of psychological exploration. When I am working, I focus on expressing my feelings through color, texture, and form. As I work, I use my imagination to search for figures, shapes, or landscapes. I actively turn off any self-talk to allow room for new discoveries.
My work is abstract and contemporary. To me abstract art allows space for a unique narrative to emerge; a space for either the creator or the observer to derive meaning. I want people to look at my prints and feel something.
Before I became a printmaker, I taught a variety of subjects at the middle and elementary school levels. I worked in a wonderfully vibrant neighborhood, Alum Rock, California, for 8 years before going back to school to study counseling. After living in Lake Tahoe for a couple seasons, I took a big leap and moved to the beautiful jungle pueblo, Sayulita. Sayulita’s juxtaposition of beach and jungle provides a wonderful backdrop for creativity and I am lucky to call it home. My studio is in Los Gatos where my father and I work (and play).
We hope to host a few workshops this year so please message me if you’re interested in attending one.
Henri Matisse said that “Creativity takes courage.” I just want to take a minute to thank the many supporters in my life that spark my creative fire and continue to believe in me. Also I want to thank my patrons who have also fallen in love with the little worlds I love to create. Thank you for sharing my world with me. A special thanks to the following individuals.
